Pioneers in this field from Australia, Southern Africa and the Far East have improved our understanding of this disease.

The Drakensberg Declaration of 2006 laid out a blue print for the reduction in Rheumatic Heart Disease in Africa

In 2013 the World Hear Federation established specific targets with an overall target of reducing premature death by 25% by 2025

specifically these included

90% of endemic countries to have a detection program

90% of countries to have a safe supply of Pennicilllin

Develop at least one champion in ecah country

Establish a hub for research and teaching in each geopolitical area

To test a streptococcal vaccine

To develop technology on and open knowledge platform

It is against these general principles that the Echo in Africa program has been developed
